Introduction:
The English Language Department at the British Institute of Training & Education is staffed entirely by native speakers of English with a university degree and a fully accredited CELTA/ DELTA qualification. Many of the staff have been with BITE for over three years and there is an excellent esprit de corps which has been built on a solid basis of mutual respect and a professional exchange of ideas in the field of TEFL. Their extensive expertise in the field of modern teaching methods and their close knowledge of the Arab world enable BITE to offer general English and specialist courses/ seminars across a wide spectrum. The courses concentrate on developing the English language skills at all levels and the training programmes are integrated with computer assisted learning and other audio/ visual aids. Great care is taken to ensure that only the best and most up-to-date training materials/ text-books are used on all courses. Entry into the courses is by placement test - concentrating on all four skills- to ensure that students are placed on courses commensurate with their linguistic ability.
Courses are also available for corporate clients and these are designed to meet the individual requirements of the client in terms of course duration, selection procedures, course content based on needs analysis and final certification/ accreditation at the end of the course. Corporate clients, for example, will often require English for Special Purposes covering such areas as business, commerce, hospitality, tourism etc. and courses are specifically and professionally designed to meet those needs. Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL)
BITE considers the use of CALL as an important vehicle in the language - learning process and for that reason language computer software has become an integral part of BITE's training methodology. From the youngest learners upwards the Institute is equipped with up-to-date software for the stimulation and enhancement of the learning process; the software is designed to reinforce the classroom - based learning and caters for all levels from beginners to advanced. It is user-friendly and reinforces the skills of reading, writing, spelling and all relevant grammatical structures.
Summer School
One of the highlights of our academic year is the Summer School which runs from early June to early September. Probably the most popular Summer School in Kuwait, the British Institute prides itself in offering a stimulating range of computer-assisted language courses from the youngest to the oldest. The school functions as a social and academic hub throughout the summer months for all ages.
Arabic
Come along and enjoy the pleasures of Learning Arabic and make yourself understood in most social settings. BITE has established an outstanding reputation for Arabic Language Training. Courses in the Institute have been run from complete Beginners to Advanced. Students have included the general public, corporate clients and employees from government departments overseas. Courses for beginners are 5 weeks covering a period of 20 hours and post-beginners courses can be tailored to meet the needs of the client in terms of duration and timings. The principal staff in this department are British, bi-lingual Arabists ably assisted by a pool of professionally trained native speakers. The department is fully equipped to run in-country intensive language Training for undergraduates, government employees and those who simply wish to pursue their Arabic studies for personal reasons.
Translation Services
Translation services - Arabic/ English and English/ Arabic - are now offered at BITE where bi-lingual, dedicated staff can produce high quality translations of any technical or non-technical complexity. Rates are very competitive. The department was originally set up three years ago to undertake a massive translation project of the highest technical intensity which it carried out to the total satisfaction of the client. The department will carry out any of your translation requirements - no job is considered too great or too small.
